Defining subculture; A cultural group within a larger culture, often seen to be having different beliefs or interests at variance with those of the larger culture. It is a branch off of the mainstream culture embracing its own unique style. Often times, as more and more people do it, pieces of various subcultures become mainstream.
Defining youth-culture; This defines the way that the younger generations live amid the other generations. Culture is shared through symbolic systems and processes of maintaining and transforming these systems. Youth culture differs from that of the older generations.
To list some types of subcultures, they would be like;
• Mods
• Punk
• Gamers
• Greaser
• Grunge
• Grime
• Gangs
• Deaf Culture
• Northern Soul
Out of that list, one of those clearly stands out from the others. Deaf culture has a few interesting angles that it can be taken through which means several different types of final outputs can stem from the idea. To answer the brief, deaf culture could be used to make an informational publication about the topic. Within the publication could be several different things, for instance it could have articles debating the premise of teaching sign in schools, or it could be an informational piece for teachers about deaf awareness.
Creating a publication for deaf awareness would come up with a surge in interest for deaf awareness and the culture of it. The attention could mean more people asking the question, should sign be taught in schools. With that in mind, deaf culture is likely the largest and best idea for the brief and that will likely be the one researched and created for a final publication.
