A History of Animation and Graphic Design

Monday 12th October 2015

Animation and Graphic Design has changed as we have gone through time and has developed slowly as we have gone through different movements. For instance, Animation is something that has been around for a very long time to the surprise of many, this is because Animation can be seen as any form of movement in design, i.e. the Magic Lantern that came around in 1650, is an early version of something known as a projector in our time. Some of the slides that were found inside of the lantern would consist of moving parts - which, as you may be able to tell is something that can easily be taken in as a part of Animation Design.

Moving over a few different versions of Animations, something called the Flip Book is something that was quite primary in a sense of media. It involved drawing a series of images on the edges of pages and flipping through them in one swift motion, with this, the effect of each page turning over in quick movements ended up in the illusion of the images starting to move properly.

After the predecessors of Animation had come through, the 20th century came around and with it cartoons and other things of the like. Such cartoons were the pinnacle of Animation for so long and still act as a part in the design world nowadays too. These films were very common across Western civilizations, and such greats as Walt Disney were at the forefront of the industry at that time - with 1928 being when Mickey Mouse, the infamous cartoon character was released.
