For the second installment of our studies in Physical Studio with John Kelly, we were tasked with creating observational drawings of different aspects or features or locations within the University, primarily based around the Creative Arts Building itself. In this Process and Production session we were given a total of three hours to record drawings for each area we were given to work from - these areas being inside the studio, on the balcony inside the Creative Arts Building and the ground floor of the building.
As we had three hours, we had one hour in each area to create an iteration of our surroundings and record our attempts inside of our sketchbooks. The results that I had created can be found below, some of the pieces include illustrations of the lighting, the reflection of the lights as they hit the windows of the studio and also the columns that can be seen scaling the inside of the building, holding up each of the balcony's.
The mediums of which I used to create these pieces are, a ballpoint byro, a fine liner and a marker pen. The byro pen is a good media to use when you're looking for the scratching effects in the drawings as they can get the rough lines into a piece rather well in contrast to other types of stylus. Those that were created with the fine liner help to create a more delicate effect within the drawings, as they can give strong but precise inklings across the sketches. And finally, the one that has been created in a red calligraphy marker proved to show an interesting result because the lines can be altered with the slightest twist and turn of the marker pen - applying thick and thin lines to the image.
