Adobe Creative Cloud - Illustrator Tracing

Thursday 10th March 2016

In the Process and Production session for the Creative Cloud, today we were introduced to the Cloud as a multi-platform service of which we could attribute to future works. In this particular session we had created a piece of work by the end of the session with Illustrator, whilst being introduced to the various tools and features of the program. Below you will find the various stages that we had gone through and an accompanying explanation.

During the beginning of the session we were told to register with an Adobe ID if you hadn't already and to also download the application for our phones 'Adobe Capture' so that we could experiment with it later on. After this we went on to find a photograph of a cityscape and tried out various tools and lines to go over the image as vectors. After doing so, experimenting with shape vectors came about and we tried creating merged shapes with the aptly named tool. Here is an example of the photograph prior to modification and then post experiment. The cityscape photograph was brought in from Vistech Studios (http://www.vistechstudios.com/equipment/securing-your-business/new-york-cityscape/).

After creating the above experiment with strong shapes and colours, we went on to complete the final design for the session. For this we were tasked with finding a photograph of something, preferably of something in action - i.e. a Sports shot for instance, and then modify it with the described functions and tools. Following each stage we finally created a piece with the use of 'Image Trace' adding in a specific amount of colours giving it an interesting effect, an effect that can be seen in many different designs. Before adding colour we first experimented by creating an image trace with black and white - of which created rather bland and block-like results, making it hard to make out the image. The stages can be found below:

And the final piece looking like this...
